This overview outlines how to use Smart Tonnage in AtlasNet to view available shipments, optimize truck utilization, identify profitable backhauls, and reduce empty miles.

Purpose:
Provide visibility into available shipments, maximize trailer utilization, and increase revenue per trip.

Key Areas:

  1. Accessing Smart Tonnage:

    • AtlasNet Home Page → Applications → Operations → Smart Tonnage

    • Dispatch Screen → scroll to bottom → click Smart Tonnage

    • Trip Manager → click weigh scale icon under trip details

  2. Creating a Profile:

    • Click Create Profile

    • Example: Brad – Ontario to Quebec

    • Profile Options:

      • Default Profile → saves as your standard search

      • Alert Me → sends automatic notifications when matching shipments appear

      • Division → select Canada Household Goods (add RSG to include U.S. shipments)

      • Origin Provinces/States → choose starting regions (e.g., Ontario & Quebec)

      • Destination Zones → select target areas (e.g., Zone 7B = Western provinces & territories)

      • Date Range → default 30 days; adjust to look further ahead

      • Weight Range → enter minimum or maximum (e.g., 5,000 lbs) to match truck capacity

    • After setting filters → click Create Profile → confirmation message → Submit

  3. Viewing Shipments:

    • Map View (default) → pins display shipment location, weight, pickup date, and TTG

    • List View → table format with adjustable columns and page size (up to 100 rows)

    • Shipment details include origin, destination, weight, TTG, and assignment options

    • Actions:

      • Acceptable → assign shipment immediately

      • Email CSR → contact Atlas Operations to request assignment

  4. Using Smart Tonnage in Trip Manager:

    • From a driver’s trip → click Smart Tonnage (weigh scale icon)

    • Shows trip in blue with available shipments nearby

    • Example: Driver ending in Edmonton sees a 10,000 lb shipment to El Paso, TX

    • If U.S. qualified → shipment can be accepted or requested via Atlas Operations

  5. Benefits:

    • Maximize trailer utilization and reduce empty miles

    • Identify backhaul opportunities and increase revenue per trip

    • Automate alerts for new shipments that fit your criteria

    • Provide visibility into available shipments across Canada and the U.S.
