This overview explains the importance of Direct Delivery to Residents (DDR) numbers, how to obtain them, and best practices for government shipments. Proper use of DDR numbers ensures compliance, smooth delivery, and adherence to Guaranteed Transit Times (GTT).

Purpose:
DDR numbers authorize delivery for certain government shipments and confirm that the member and delivery agent are coordinated. They are critical for DND and CRS shipments and help prevent delays, unauthorized deliveries, or penalties.

1. General Rule:

  • All government shipments must contact the assigned Delivery Agent (DA) before delivery.

  • A DDR authorization number is required for:

    • DND shipments

    • CRS shipments

  • RCMP shipments do not require a DDR number.

2. Authorization Requirements:

  • DDR number must be obtained on the day of delivery.

  • The DA will need the following information:

    • Member name

    • Registration number

    • Contract number

    • Shipment weight (or approximate if under 7,000 lb)

  • After-hours or weekend delivery:

    • DDR number must be obtained during regular business hours.

    • Notify Atlas Operations if authorization is for after-hours delivery.

3. Specific Instructions by Agency:

  • DND: PVO contacts DA, who then contacts the base to obtain the DDR number.

  • CRS: PVO contacts DA; DA sends an email to CRS to request the DDR number.

  • RCMP: No DDR number required, including weekends.

4. Local Moves:

  • DDR number is not required if:

    • Delivery is within the same or next day, and

    • Member is aware of delivery.

5. Delivery Timing:

  • All shipments must be delivered within the Guaranteed Transit Time (GTT).

  • Early delivery is allowed if:

    • The member is ready to accept the shipment, and

    • No additional fees are incurred.

  • Notify Atlas Canada Government & Corporate Services and Atlas Operations for early deliveries.

6. Support:

  • For questions or issues, contact Atlas Canada Operations.

Key Takeaway:
Obtaining and using DDR numbers correctly ensures smooth, compliant delivery for government shipments and prevents delays, unauthorized deliveries, or penalties.
