Purpose:
Proper handling of firearms and ammunition is critical for compliance, crew safety, and the prevention of legal or operational issues. Following strict procedures ensures no inadmissible items are transported, protects personnel, and avoids penalties or liability.

Contents:

  • Essential Paperwork:

    • Documentation of all firearms included in the shipment (make, model, serial number).

    • Records confirming firearms are pre-packaged and sealed by the Shipper.

    • Compliance verification with federal, provincial, and territorial regulations.

  • Completion Guidelines:

    1. Identify the items:

      • Ask the member if firearms or ammunition are part of the shipment.

    2. Verify admissibility:

      • Reference the Scope of Work: firearms and ammunition are generally inadmissible except under Rule 8.

      • Only non-restricted firearms prepared and documented by the Shipper can be accepted.

    3. Ensure proper packaging:

      • Shipper must package firearms in an opaque, sealed container.

      • Trigger locks alone are insufficient.

      • Container should have no external markings indicating contents.

    4. Document the shipment:

      • Record firearm details: make, model, serial number.

      • Confirm safe storage rules are followed.

    5. Handling restrictions:

      • Contractors or sub-contractors with a Carrier Licence must not physically handle firearms.

      • Movers must be informed of firearms in the shipment to take appropriate precautions.

    6. LTS shipments:

      • Non-restricted firearms cannot be placed in LTS.

  • Compliance & Protection:

    • Failure to refuse inadmissible firearms results in LD4 – Two (2) point penalty.

    • Proper adherence protects the Contractor, crews, and Atlas from liability.

    • Ensures legal compliance with the Criminal Code of Canada and Carrier Licence conditions.

    • Prevents potential loss, damage, or unsafe situations during transport.

Key Takeaway:
Contractors must never handle firearms directly. Accept only properly pre-packaged, documented firearms prepared by the Shipper. Strict adherence prevents penalties, ensures safety, and maintains compliance with federal regulations.
