This overview highlights best practices for mentoring new Professional Van Operators (PVOs) to ensure compliance with Government shipment requirements.

Purpose:

  • Build confidence and competence in newer PVOs.

  • Ensure proper execution of the Scope of Work and regulatory compliance.

  • Prevent errors that could result in penalties or claims.

Best Business Practices:

  • Provide guidance: Confirm understanding of Scaling requirements, DDR numbers, and SIV/SIT procedures.

  • Share resources:

    • Offer a Scaling cab card if available.

    • Show local government-approved scales.

    • Provide or direct them to relevant training videos:

      • Scaling Video: Procedures & importance

      • DDR Number Video: Purpose & use

      • SIV/SIT Video: Role of the PVO in storage in transit or in van

  • Use multiple learning methods: Encourage video review in the driver’s room and provide copies for individual study.

  • Offer support: Direct questions to Atlas Canada Operations at 833-209-4528.

  • Promote compliance culture: Reinforce the importance of understanding customer requirements and the Scope of Work.

Key Principle:
“Take the time to mentor newer team members. Clear guidance and training protects the PVO, the Agency, and Atlas Canada while ensuring successful, compliant moves.”
